MI Cape Town have announced signing Simon Katich for the head coach position.

Ahead of the inaugural SA20 player auction on 19th September, MI Cape Town have announced signing Simon Katich for the head coach position.

Contrary to earlier reports that Mark Boucher would take on the role, the franchise took to Twitter to officially confirm Katich’s hiring.

The 47-year-old’s first coaching stint in the IPL was with KKR as its assistant coach for the 2015 season.

Katich coached RCB from 2019-2021. He was the assistant head coach for SRH for the 2022 edition but resigned before the season started due to differences.

Speaking on his new role, he said, ” It is an absolute honour to be offered the head coach position for MI Cape Town. It is always special to put together a new team, hone skills and build a team culture.”

Besides Katich, MI Cape Town announced the signing of South African legend Hashim Amla as the batting coach.

“Bringing my experience as a player and mentor, I am excited to help MI Cape Town players bring the best out of themselves and make SA cricket stronger,” said Amla.

For the fielding coach position, the team has hired Mumbai Indians fielding coach James Pamment.

Former Proteas spinner Robin Peterson has been roped in for the general manager’s role.
