Mohammad Kaif was with Delhi Capitals as an assistant coach for a few years. He is still close to players like Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, and a few others. In the match between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals, he narrated a hilarious incident related to Rishab.
“When Shreyas Iyer got injured, Pant was told to lead Delhi capitals. He wrote a few points on a piece of paper which he wanted to speak while addressing the teammates in a meeting. However, he forgot what he wrote as he couldn’t read his own handwriting. There was a long pause in the team meeting before Pant threw away the paper and said that he wanted to be original.
“He told the guys to play well for the team. On that day, I realized that Rishabh was an emotional person,” Kaif said on Star Sports.
The southpaw recently returned to action after being out for 14 months due to injuries sustained in a car accident in December 2022.
He underwent several surgeries to fix his ligaments in the right knee, and then a long rehabilitation followed at the National Cricket Academy.
Pant was made to play two practice matches by the BCCI before giving him the all-clearance to play in the IPL 2024.
