Royal Challengers Bengaluru have won just two out of nine games in the Indian Premier League 2024. Their second victory came after a month when the Faf du Plessis-led franchise thumped Sunrisers Hyderabad by 35 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad.
Faf has looked off-colour and short of ideas as a captain in the 17th season. Even his batting has taken a big hit, and the good scores are not coming from his bat.
Former India player Harbhajan Singh said it is the right time to bring back Virat Kohli as skipper. The veteran left the leadership role after IPL 2021. He led the side for years, but failure to lift the trophy got the better of him, and he vacated the captain”s post.
Faf was bought in the auction and was given the captaincy straightway. He led from the front in the past two seasons, but the number of performers decreased in the new edition.
“It is time for Royal Challengers Bengaluru to bring back Virat Kohli as their captain, as the franchise will show a fighting spirit under his leadership even if they can’t win a title. It is important to keep fighting until you reach the ultimate success. Virat has been giving input to Faf, but he should take over as the full-time captain,” Harbhajan Singh said.
It will be tough to convince Virat to take the captaincy. Meanwhile, he is leading the Orange Cap race this season, with over 400 runs in 9 matches.
