Riyan Parag
Throughout four seasons, spanning from 2019 to 2023, Parag accumulated 861 runs in 59 matches, a tally that, while respectable, failed to showcase his true potential fully.

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan said that Riyan Parag will play for India in the next two years. He commented after Parag’s blistering batting for Rajasthan Royals against Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2024. Parag smashed an unbeaten 84 runs off 45 balls, with the help of 7 fours and 6 sixes.

He was unstoppable after setting his eyes in. The young batter has been promoted in the batting order in the 17th season and has been making his performances count. He played a fine knock of more than 40 runs in the opening game against Lucknow Super Giants. His partnership with captain Sanju Samon led the Royals to win.

In the second contest with Delhi Capitals, he didn’t let the team come under pressure despite losing some quick wickets. He hammered Anrich Nortje for big shots in the final over of the innings.

The Asaam-based batter failed to justify his talent before the recently concluded domestic season. Playing for Assam, he notched up runs in white-ball matches and red-ball cricket.

Irfan, who has been critical of Parag in the past for his habit of throwing away his wicket, lauded the batter for the transformation he has shown.

“In the next two years Riyan Parag is playing for India,” he wrote on X.

India have tried a lot of young players across formats, and with some seniors on the last leg of their careers, the sub-continent team will give a chance to new faces in the near future.
