MS Dhoni knows how to run games in the Indian Premier League. The veteran has been taking care of the proceedings since 2008 and hasn’t slowed down. In the IPL 2024 match between Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings, he scored an unbeaten 28 runs off 9 balls to take the team’s total to 176/6 in 20 overs. He smashed 3 fours and 2 sixes, and his runs came at a strike rate of more than 300.
Dhoni was not done, as he was seen urging the bowlers and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad to finish the overs on time to avoid slow over-rate offence. Dhoni was in touch with Gaikwad on over-rate from the first over of the LSG innings and signaled him several times to tell the bowlers to hurry up.
Dhoni also noticed Rahul’s deliberate act of putting Ruturaj in trouble. The rival captain was taking a lot of time to get ready before facing a ball, and after Dhoni informed his skipper about it, Gaikwad also notified the umpires.
The new leader of the five-time champions also approached Rahul to urge him to get ready and stop wasting time. For the record, Rahul committed the slow over-rate offence during CSK’s batting.
His franchise was found one over short and had to place four instead of five fielders outside the thirty-yard circle. KL will also be fined INR 12 lakh. The fine is increased to INR 24 lakh if the offence is repeated for a second time. The skipper will be banned for one match in the third instance.
