Shimron Hetmyar’s match-winning knock helped the visitors to win the first ODI against India at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday. Windies outclassed the Men in Blue by eight wickets.

While the Caribbean were head over heels after their comprehensive win, Virat Kohli’s troops were disappointed by the run-out controversy involving Ravindra Jadeja.

In the 48th over of India’s innings, Jadeja went for a run but his effort was thwarted by Windies spinner Roston Chase who came up with a direct hit at the striker’s end.

However, the on-field umpire Shaun George was unmoved. Kieron Pollard intervened in the matter and urged the on-field umpire to dismiss the all-rounder as the run-out was already shown on the big screen.

The third umpire then rectified the mistake and Jadeja was given his marching orders.

While supporting the decision, Pollard said, “At the end of the day, the right decision was made and that’s the most important thing for me”

On the other hand, Virat Kohli had a complete different take on Jadeja’s run-out controversy. “The thought is simple, the fielder asked ‘how is that’ and the umpire said ‘not out’. The dismissal ends there. The people sitting on the TV outside cannot tell the fielders to then tell the umpire to review it again. I’ve never seen that happen in cricket”.
