Riyaz Parag has come of age in the last one year. He made tons of runs for Assam in domestic cricket and has carried the form to the Indian Premier League 2024. After amassing a 40-plus score in the opening game against Lucknow Super Giants. he hit a well-complied fifty against Delhi Capitals in Jaipur.
Parag has often been accused of wasting his talent and throwing away his wicket despite being talented. Former India player Sanjay Manjrekar was pleased with Parag’s batting and compared him with great MS Dhoni.
“He is like MS Dhoni. The young batter takes time before unleashing his strokes like the former India captain. He has matured over the years and is now showing his class. I was surprised when he was failing in IPL. Credit to Rajasthan Royals for sticking around with him despite his below-par performances,’ Sanjay Manjrekar said.
In the second contest with Delhi Capitals, he kept the scoreboard ticking. Rajasthan lost wickets at regular intervals, but Parag continued to bat with freedom, hitting big shots when needed.
The Royals have promoted Riyan in the batting order to allow him to face more balls and score runs for the franchise.
He scored 84 runs off 45 balls, with the help of 6 sixes and 7 fours, as the hosts posted 185/5 in 20 overs.
