According to the rules, if the franchise doesn't complete the overs in the allotted time in three games, the skipper is suspended for a match.

MS Dhoni explained his composed reactions when catches are dropped in matches. At a promotional event, he had to remind the anchor that he is no longer captain of the Chennai Super Kings when asked about his response to a dropped catch by Rachin Ravindra in their game against the Gujarat Titans at MA Chidambaram Stadium. Dhoni noted that the current captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, has a similarly composed demeanour on the field.

Rachin Ravindra, acquired by the Super Kings for Rs 1.8 crore in the December IPL auction, has proven an absolute bargain. The New Zealand all-rounder has provided explosive starts at the top of the order, opening the batting with Ruturaj Gaikwad while Devon Conway has been absent.

Rachin Ravindra has played flawlessly in the tournament so far. However, he made a rare mistake on Tuesday, dropping a catch of Gujarat Titans’ Sai Sudharsan in the 15th over while GT was chasing 208. Running back from extra cover, Rachin dropped the catch off Matheesha Pathirana’s bowling.

The anchor asked the young New Zealand all-rounder, “When you missed the catch, did you look at MS Dhoni? What was his reaction and what did he tell you?”

MS Dhoni pointed out, saying, “There’s a new captain now?”

“I don’t usually have strong reactions, particularly when a player is making his debut or playing in only his second game. Also, Ruturaj has a similar temperament. I like watching Rachin’s enthusiasm and energy as he fielded all over the ground,” continued Dhoni.

After winning both matches in the 2024 IPL season so far, Chennai Super Kings lead the points table. Under new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, the Super Kings have appeared calm and composed, as Gaikwad has handled the captaincy load with poise thus far.

The 5-time champions will face Delhi Capitals in Vizag on March 31.
