David Warner sets eyes on playing 2024 T20 World Cup

On Thursday, January 12, Cricket Australia trended on social media platforms for their decision to pull out from the bilateral series against Afghanistan due to the Taliban’s ban on women’s higher education.

Besides this, David Warner’s return to Big Bash League after nine years is another moment for which Cricket Australia will hogg the headlines.

The 36-year-old, who signed for Sydney Thunder, will mark his return to Australia’s premier domestic T20 league on Friday for the tie against Perth Scorchers.

Warner has played just 3 BBL matches, which includes a hundred for Sydney Sixers. The southpaw was under the scanner for a long time due to his dismal performance with the bat until he scored the famous double hundred on his 100th Test appearance.

Warner has not had good relations with Cricket Australia, as he recently slammed the board for his media trial over the leadership ban issue. Further, his lack of runs did not provide him with any comfort, as there were talks of his ouster.

Ahead of his Big Bash return, Warner spoke to Sky Sports, where he revealed his retirement date.

Warner said that 2023 could be his last year in international cricket. The 36-year-old pointed out that his goal is to finish his career after the 2024 T20 World Cup in America.

“This year will most likely be my last in international cricket. Although, I have set my eyes on the 2024 T20 World Cup.”
