Babar Azam in PSL
Babar Azam broke Chris Gayle's record of fastest to 9000 T20 runs

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam shone with the bat on Thursday, March 16, with his PSL side Peshawar Zalmi, as the 28-year-old struck a lightening 39-ball 64, which helped his side beat Islamabad United.

Babar, who hit ten fours last night with a strike rate of 164, climbed to 2nd spot in the list of leading run-scorers in the ongoing PSL edition with 416 runs in nine matches. Further, with the knock, Babar surpassed Chris Gayle to become the fastest cricketer to reach 9000 runs in T20s.

Gayle, one of the most prolific T20 cricketers, took 249 innings to reach 9000 runs, while Azam replicated the same in four fewer innings. Here is the list of the fastest cricketers to reach 9000 runs.

  • Babar Azam – 245 innings
  • Chris Gayle – 249 innings
  • Virat Kohli – 271 innings
  • David Warner – 273 innings
  • Aaron Finch – 281 innings

In yesterday’s game, Peshawar, batting first, put 183 runs on the board, courtesy of Babar. Meanwhile, Shadab Khan-led Islamabad United fell short of 12 runs after a brilliant display by Aamer Jamal, who took two wickets for 36 runs.
