He recused the Kiwis from the tricky position in the first Test against England. The 32-year-old saw wickets fall from the other end but continued to bat confidently on Day 2 of the contest.

Apart from him, Devon Conway (77), Neil Wagner (27), and Scott Kuggeleijn (20) showed some resistance against the England bowling.
