Former Indian opener Krishnamachari Srikkanth has shared his thoughts on the retirement talks surrounding MS Dhoni.

After Chennai Super Kings’ impressive victory over the defending champions Gujarat Titans in the IPL Qualifier 1 at Chepauk, Dhoni once again sparked speculation about his future by mentioning that he has ample time to consider his participation in next year’s IPL.

While Dhoni has not made a definitive decision regarding his retirement plans, many Indian fans believe that this might be his last tournament. In his post-match comments, the 41-year-old hinted at contemplating retirement after the conclusion of the IPL.

Responding to Dhoni’s remarks, Krishnamachari Srikkanth emphasized that Dhoni’s physical condition will be the determining factor for his return next year. Srikkanth, a World Cup winner, acknowledged that leading the team takes a toll on the body, even though Dhoni may not spend a significant amount of time batting in the middle. The legendary batter feels MS Dhoni will stop playing if he doesn’t recover from his knee injury.

Krishnamachari Srikkanth praised MS Dhoni for leaving all possibilities open regarding his future in cricket. Dhoni’s statements about potentially continuing as a player or taking on a mentoring role have kept everyone guessing.

Srikkanth emphasized that Dhoni’s decision will ultimately depend on his physical condition. Despite the challenges that come with being a captain and the demanding routine of a 41-year-old athlete, Srikkanth admired Dhoni’s dedication. He even commended Dhoni’s exceptional performance in the current season.
