Current Kolkata Knight Riders captain Nitish Rana has been fined INR 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate in the game against Punjab Kings at the Eden Gardens.

“Kolkata Knight Riders captain Nitish Rana has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Punjab Kings at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Rana was fined INR 12 lakh,” said IPL in a release.

Shikhar Dhawan’s 57 off 47 balls took Punjab to 139/7 in 17.2 overs. Shahrukh Khan and Harpreet Brar added 40 runs off 16 balls to give Punjab a fighting chance.

Varun Chakravarthy stumbled in the middle order by picking up 3-26 in four overs. Speedster Harshit Rana scalped 2 wickets, giving away 32 runs.

Rana scored a crucial 51 off 38 balls in the challenging chase of 180. His innings included 6 fours and 1 six. He also built an important fifty-plus stand with Venkatesh Iyer (11). Later, Andre Russell and Rinku Singh took the matter into their hands and chased 180 on the last ball.
