After picking up an abdominal injury, which ruled him out for the remainder of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), pacer Ishant Sharma is also highly doubtful for the upcoming, India’s Tour of Australia.

Ishant had played a solitary game for the Delhi Capitals (DC) before getting ruled out for the remainder of the tournament. He didn’t pick up a single wicket as Delhi Capitals lost that game to the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

“Ishant Sharma experienced an acute episode of left rib cage pain while bowling at a team training session on 7 October 2020 in Dubai. Subsequent investigations revealed that he sustained a left internal oblique muscle tear,” DC had said in a statement on Monday.

The upcoming series is tentatively set to get underway almost two weeks after the completion of the ongoing IPL, which will conclude on November 10.

Ishant sustained a muscle tear last week. He won’t be able to bowl for the next three weeks, though such setbacks keep a player out for around two months.

The 32-year-old, Ishant, is set to return to India where he will undergo rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, where he’ll be joined by fellow-pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who was also ruled out of the tournament, last week.

The selectors are likely to announce the squad for the Tour of Australia, later this month, but it will be interesting to see whether Ishant will get the nod or not.

Earlier this year, the veteran pacer had tweaked his ankle, ahead of the series against New Zealand. Nevertheless, Ishant played in the first Test against the Kiwis but he had to miss the second Test in Christchurch, after twisting his ankle, once again.
