Shami made it to the team after Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out.

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Thakur, has slammed the trolls for threatening Mohammed Shami over the pacer’s Dussehra wish to the nation on October 5. He took to social media to wish everyone on the festival day.

His religion was once again questioned, with many asking him to refrain from posting greetings on a Hindu festival.

“On the happy occasion of Dussehra, I pray that Lord Ram fills your life with lots of happiness, prosperity, and success. Happy Dussehra to you and your family,” Shami wrote on social media, sharing a photo of Lord Ram.

Stating that there was nothing wrong with what Shami wrote, Anurag Thakur said it’s important to celebrate festivals together.

“Everyone should celebrate festivals together. What is the issue if Mohammed Shami also celebrated it? All those who are opposing him are the ones who divide the nation. We need to keep everyone together and celebrate all festivals,” he said.

Shami was targeted after his ordinary performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 match against Pakistan earlier.
