New Delhi: CSK’s 8.4 crore buy Sameer Rizvi got off to a fantastic start in his IPL career as he slammed a six off his first delivery that too against Rashid Khan.

In his second match, he batted for the first time and hit an unbeaten 14 runs in six balls against Gujarat Titans. He hit the first ball he faced in IPL, off Rashid, for a majestic six over the square leg region in the 19th over. The uncapped young India cricketer finished the over with another maximum. Sameer’s brother Sabool Rizvi revealed that Sameer had vowed to hit a six on the very first delivery of his IPL career before he joined the Men in Yellow ahead of IPL. Sabool, who watched the game on TV, shared a video of Sameer’s brilliant batting on Instagram.

“Keh kar gaya tha pheli bol par six marunga mashallah [He had said that he would hit six off the very first delivery mashallah],” Sabool Rizvi wrote on Instagram.

Sameer Rizvi secured an IPL contract worth Rs 8.4 crore at the auction held in December last year. Gujarat Titans was involved in a bidding war with Chennai Super Kings to acquire Rizvi’s services. Sameer, who hails from Meerut, was sublime in the latest edition of the UPT20, where he scored 455 runs in nine innings. He scored two centuries and hit the most sixes for his side, Kanpur Superstars, in the competition.

Sameer Rizvi was instrumental in the CK Nayudu Trophy quarter-finals for UP, where he scored 312 runs off just 266 deliveries. His power-packed knock comprised 33 boundaries and 12 sixes. Sameer has also played for India at the Under-19 level. He made his Ranji Trophy debut at the age of 16 in 2020.

Having played seven first-class matches so far, Sameer has scored 96 runs. His cameo against GT last night helped CSK post a mammoth total of 206/6. Shivam Dube was the highest scorer for the five-time champions in the game. The all-rounder produced a blistering knock of 51 runs off 23 balls.

During the run chase, Gujarat Titans kept losing wickets at regular intervals and managed 143 in 20 overs. Deepak Chahar, Mustafizur Rahman, and Tushar Deshpande each picked up two wickets for CSK.
