The sport of cricket has become a welcome distraction for Sri Lankans looking for a break from the effects of the economic crisis in the country.

In a noble gesture by Australian players, they have donated the prize money from their recent tour of Sri Lanka to support kids and families impacted on the island nation due to the ongoing economic crisis.

Aaron Finch, Pat Cummins and other players will donate A$45,000. Australia recently played in Sri Lanka. While they won the T20I series, Lanka hit back in the ODIs. The Test matches ended 1-1 after the hosts thumped Australia in the second game.

The economic situation in Sri Lanka has made life difficult for everyone with shortage of food, petroleum, medicines, and clothing among other things.

“We saw the daily struggles of the people. Things are not normal in Sri Lanka. Everyone is finding hard to arrange things for their families. When the players witnessed everything, they decided to donate prize money to UNICEF, who have been in Sri Lanka for more than 50 years ,” Cummins was quoted as saying by Daily Mirror.

Earlier, Pat Cummins and Cricket Australia donated $50,000 for oxygen supplies during second wave of COVID-19 in India.
