Sanju Samson has put himself into big trouble after Rajasthan Royals failed to complete 20 overs in time for the second time in the Indian Premier League 2024. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will fine him INR 24 lakh for the second slow over rate penalty.

RR was one over short in the allotted time. Despite Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Avesh Khan’s argument with the umpire, the team could only place four instead of five fielders outside the thirty-yard circle against Lucknow Super Giants.

Samson will be suspended for one match if the offence happens for the third time. If it comes in the playoffs, it could end the Royals’ campaign, as the franchise is currently leading the points table and is just one win away from booking its place in the playoffs.

RR were found guilty of the slow, over-rate offence against the Gujarat Titans for the first time. The Titans had defeated Rajasthan by three wickets.

” Sanju Samson, the Rajasthan Royals captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on April 10,” the IPL had said in a statement.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Samson was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” the statement added.
