PBKS win by 8 wickets
Gambhir, Shreyas Iyer seen in a heated discussion with umpire present at the boundary line

On Saturday, Jonny Bairstow smashed an unbeaten century to lead the Punjab Kings to a record-breaking run chase against Kolkata Knight Riders. Bairstow, who struggled early in the campaign, scored 108 runs off just 48 balls as the Punjab Kings chased down 262, the highest-ever successful run chase in T20 cricket. They reached the target with 8 wickets and 8 balls to spare. Despite the devastating loss, Kolkata Knight Riders are still second in the points table.

However, KKR mentor Gambhir Gambhir lost his cool after the final ball of the 14th over in KKR’s innings, and fans on social media took notice of the incident.

The PBKS spinner Rahul Chahar bowled a short delivery outside the off stump to Andre Russell, who hit the ball towards cover region. Ashutosh Sharma managed to stop the ball from crossing the boundary rope.

Ashutosh hastily threw the ball to the wicketkeeper, but keeper Jitesh Sharma could not collect it, and it went past him. Russell swiftly stole a run on the overthrow. However, the umpires denied KKR the run, ruling that the over had already ended before the throw.

Gambhir became agitated and began arguing with a match official near the dugout. KKR captain Shreyas Iyer was also present. The heated exchange between Gambhir and the fourth umpire continued until the former KKR captain left.

Meanwhile, the centurion Jonny Bairstow was awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ for his superb knock, which included eight fours and nine sixes.

“We started strongly, which was very crucial. They also began strongly, so we knew we had to be aggressive during the powerplay. When chasing a target over 200, you have to take risks in the powerplay and try to hit as hard as possible,” Jonny Bairstow said.

Shashank Singh scored 68 not out in just 28 balls, hitting eight sixes and two fours.
