Munro has scored 3 T20I centuries

New Zealand batter Collin Munro has announced retirement from international cricket. A white-ball specialist, Munro has represented the Blackcaps in T20 World Cups.

After missing out on New Zealand’s ICC T20 World Cup 2024 squad, Munro, 37, has decided to hang his boots from international cricket. He was hoping to play for New Zealand once again.

The southpaw featured in over 100 games for New Zealand, but his one and only Test match came against South Africa in 2013. It was overshadowed by a stellar white-ball career in which he scored three centuries and nineteen half-centuries for his nation.

Munro scored 3 centuries in his T20I career and is one of the 7 batters to smash 3 tons in the shortest format of the game. The former opener was an important part of the Kiwi team that played the exciting 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup final against England. He has represented New Zealand in the T20 World Cups in 2014 and 2016.

With immediate effect, Munro has announced his retirement from international cricket, but he will still play for franchises in leagues. Looking back on his career, Munro stated that playing for New Zealand was unquestionably the highest point of his career.

“My greatest accomplishment as a player has always been to play for the Black Caps,” Munro was reported by ICC as saying, “I will always be proud of the fact that I was able to do that 123 times across all formats. I have always felt proud wearing the NZ jersey.

“Even though it has been a long since I played for NZ, I never lost faith that I could be able to make a comeback based on my T20 form for different franchises. With the announcement of the Black Caps team for the T20 World Cup, I believe now is the ideal time to officially call time on international career,” he further stated.

He was a part of Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League.
