Du Plessis was fined for maintaining a slow over rate during RCB’s thrilling one-run loss to Kolkata Knight Riders
Both Faf du Plessis and Sam Curran have been fined for breaching the IPL code of conduct.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has fined Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Faf du Plessis and Punjab Kings’ stand-in skipper Sam Curran for violating the league’s code of conduct.

Curran received a fine of up to 50 percent of his match fees for a Level 1 violation of Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which prohibits ‘showing dissent to an umpire’s decision.’

The IPL confirmed that Curran acknowledged committing the offence and accepted the match referee’s sanction, as outlined in Article 2.8 of the IPL Code of Conduct. This portion of the code covers excessive displays of disappointment with an umpire’s decision, apparent delays in resuming play, shaking the head, or gesturing at the inside edge when given out LBW.

“Curran was found to have committed a Level 1 offense under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He accepted the disciplinary action handed down by the Match Referee. For Level 1 code breaches, the Referee’s decision is final and binding.” said an official statement by the IPL.

On Sunday, Du Plessis, RCB’s captain, was fined for his team’s slow over-rate during their one-run loss against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. This was RCB’s first over-rate offence this season.

“Faf du Plessis, the captain of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, was fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their match against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on April 21, 2024.” said in a statement released by IPL.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru are tenth in the standings, earning just two points across eight matches. Punjab Kings share a similar fate, registering only two wins in their eight games. These poor performances leave PBKS in ninth place with four points. While RCB’s playoff hopes are dashed, the Punjab-based franchise still has a chance to make it to the playoffs.
