Former India player Sunil Gavaskar has made a big accusation ahead of the Indian Premier League 2022 season. In his column for the Times of India, he wrote that some players don’t give their best for the country when the Indian Premier League is about to start.
“The auction is a life-changing one for the cricketers as it brings financial security. However, that can have a negative impact too with some of the players not trying hard for their country, especially when the league is about to start.”
“This is to ensure that there is no injury that could stop them from playing in the cash-rich league and the security that an IPL contract guarantees. So big efforts while fielding is not seen for fear of doing some damage that will mean withdrawal from the event.”
“The 72-year old added that the fans of the teams would be looking for a better performance right from the starting.
“The followers of the franchises would want to see a better performance from the teams from the start. This would create pressure on the players and could be a telling factor in the opening matches.”
The IPL 2022 is expected to start later in March and is scheduled to run till May end.
