The Indian squad has selected two wrist spinners for the T20 World Cup 2024, which is scheduled to take place in June in the West Indies and the United States. Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have both been picked in the side that has been centred on the spinners. MI spinner Piyush Chawla has expressed excitement over the team’s structure and believes both would be effective in the tournament.

“No one really liked spinners when the T20 format was introduced, but as you can see, they are now causing havoc. Every batter wants the ball to come on the bat quickly, but as it slows down, they need to put in extra power to keep the ball moving,” said Chawla to the press.

“Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav started their IPL on a very positive note. When comparing Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, Chahal had an outstanding IPL debut. In the previous 18 months, Kuldeep has also been performing well. If they can play together, it will be fantastic for the Men in Blue. Wickets tend to be somewhat slower in the West Indies and the USA, so they would be effective in those conditions,” Chawla remarked.

There were many debates regarding India’s decision to choose four spinners. Some have called it unnecessary after Rinku Singh was dropped from the World Cup roster. According to India skipper Rohit Sharma, the team may use both wrist spinners in some games.

India begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland on June 5th.
