The IPL 2024 match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings was a nightmare for the bowlers. The visitors completed a world record chase of 262 runs in 19.4 overs at Eden Gardens. When KKR posted 261/7, it seemed game over for the Sam Curran-led team. However, Jonny Bairstow (108), Shashank Singh (68), and Prabhsimran Singh (54) demolished Kolkata’s bowling to register a win by 8 wickets.

Harsha Bhogle, the renowned commentator, apologized to Shashank Singh for calling him Ashutosh Sharma during the game. Singh faced just 28 balls for his 68 and slammed 8 sixes and 2 fours, with his runs coming at a strike of 242.85

“I want to apologize to Shashamk Singh for calling him Ashutosh, as we are so used to watching these two. They have been magnificent for the team. I said well played, Ashutosh Sharma and then realized it was Shashank Singh,” Harsha Bhogle said on Cricbuzz.

Bhogle compared the game to a movie. “I went to see a cricket match but didn’t find one. It was a movie in front of our eyes. This was once-in-a-lifetime stuff. Shashank and Bairstow added 82 runs, of which 68 were amassed by the Indian batter. That shows his range of shots,” he added.

KKR are still second in the points table despite the defeat. They have won five matches and lost three contests so far. Punjab have 6 points from nine games and remain in ninth place.
