Gujarat Titans star batter Vijay Shankar scripted history on Sunday, April 9, as the 32-year-old smashed the fastest fifty by a Gujarat Titans player in IPL.
In the ongoing game against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Shankar came to bat in the 14th over of the match when his side were 118/3. Contrary to his reputation, Shankar smashed a 21-ball fifty, which is the fastest in the history of Gujarat Titans.
Vijay, who amassed 63(24), broke David Miller’s record of 28-ball fifty, which the South African struck against Chennai Super Kings last year. Meanwhile, Shankar’s innings was laced with five sixes and four fours.
Vijay was batting at 22(13) at one point and scored the next 41 off just 11 balls, which included a 25-run over off Lockie Ferguson’s over.
Shankar’s innings helped Gujarat Titans put 203 runs on the board, which interestingly is the first time Gujarat has posted 200+ runs in IPL. Further, Sai Sudarshan also starred with the bat, as the youngster struck 53(38).
Shankar, who made his IPL debut in 2014, has played just 53 games and has 787 runs, which includes three fifties. Adding on, it was Vijay’s highest score in the cash-studded league.
