It might come as a surprise to many that the board which has been most dubious in dealing with corrupt practices especially match-fixing and spot-fixing has sent to its country’s Prime Minister a letter recommending the eradication of corruption from sports in the country.

Yes we are talking about the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) which has sent a 77-page document explaining the ways in which it is going to tackle corruption in sports. The Prime Minister of the country, Imran Khan to whom the letter has been forwarded himself is a former cricketer and a World Champion and therefore knows the game inside out.

The document has been labeled as ‘Legislation on the prevention of corruption in sports’. It seeks to incorporate some of the important aspects of the recently passed bill in Sri Lankan Parliament — which criminalizes several offences related to match-fixing.

According to the working guidelines of the document, it needs to set up a special task force, which will investigate all cases and complaints related to corruption in sports in the entire country. A person, when proved guilty of the charges, would have to be either imprisoned for 10 years or pay a fine of rupees 100 million or both in case the offence is very harsh in nature.

It also has in it the feature to punish non-playing entities such as curators, umpires and match officials if found purposefully misusing their authority for financial or other gains.
