Australia batsman Steve Smith is hopeful of guiding Delhi Capitals to their maiden IPL title in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. Smith, who was released by the Rajasthan Royals ahead of the IPL 2021 auction, was roped in by the Delhi-based franchise for Rs 2.2 crore last week in Chennai.
The 32-year-old batsman had a forgetful season in the IPL 2020. Under his captaincy, the Royals finished last in the points table with only six wins and eight losses. Though RR got off to a brilliant start in UAE with back-to-back wins, they struggled to get going in the rest of the tournament.
In 14 games, Smith accumulated just 311 runs at an average of 25.91 last year. The Aussie is now looking forward to putting up a good show for Shreyas Iyer-led side and help them to change their fortunes in IPL 2021.
“I am really excited about joining the team this year. I think the squad has a great set of players and has a great coach and I look to getting over there and creating some amazing memories, and hopefully, help the team go one better than last year. Can’t wait guys,” Smith was quoted as saying by PTI.
DC missed the elusive title by a whisker in the 13th edition of IPL as they lost to the Mumbai Indians by five wickets in the much-anticipated final at the Dubai International Stadium.
