Young India opener Shubman Gill has returned home after being ruled out of the five-match Test series against England due to a shin injury.
Soon after he reunited with his family in Chandigarh, Gill took to his official Instagram handle and shared a picture of a cake that mentioned, “Welcome Home Shubi (Shubman).”
However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to give an official statement on Shubman Gill’s return to India.
The 21-year-old didn’t have a great outing in the final of the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) against New Zealand at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. He had the scores 28 and 8 runs in two innings.
After having a dream debut during the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, Shubman has been going through a lean patch in the longest format of the game.
Earlier this year, Gill failed to score heavily in the four-match Test series against the Joe Root-led side at home.
According to a few reports, Prithvi Shaw was expected to be Gill’s replacement for the upcoming Test series against England. But the Indian cricket board brushed aside all the speculations.
With Shaw already playing the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka in the island nation, he wasn’t allowed to travel to the UK.
The Indian contingent will now go ahead with either KL Rahul or Mayank Agarwal as the second opener with Rohit Sharma.
