Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been dominating the headlines ever since he was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. The Bangalore-based franchise shelled out a whopping amount of Rs 14.25 crore for Maxwell, who had a base price of Rs 2 crore.
The 32-year-old Aussie big-hitter was released by the Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) after his flop show in the IPL 2020 in UAE. Maxwell finished the tournament with just 108 runs in 13 games at a poor average of 15.42. He didn’t even score a fifty and his highest score was 32.
Despite his awful performance in the 13th edition of IPL, Maxwell earned his biggest-ever contract worth Rs. 14.25 crore from RCB in the auction last week.
Maxwell’s Australia teammate, David Warner, recently took a cheeky dig at his price tag while commentating alongside Mark Waugh during the first T20I against New Zealand.
“Not a bad result in the IPL auction for the ‘Big Show’ either,” Warner said when Maxwell came to bowl in the match on Monday.
Replying to Warner, the former Australia batsman said, “Considering his last IPL season.”
“It’s surprising, you get let go from your franchise and you get a lot more after being released,” the swashbuckling opener further added.
