Shikhar Dhawan-led Indian side will square off against New Zealand for the 3rd and final ODI on November 30. The Kiwis are leading the series 1-0, with a win in the first game and rain cancelling the second.
After the final game, the Men in Blue will travel to Bangladesh for the ODI series, set to begin in four days from December 4. Considering the short time between the two series and workload management, the selectors and team management decided to rest eight players from this team which has not gone well with former India opener Aakash Chopra.
The former cricketer turned analyst questioned the decision to rest in-form players like Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, and Umran Malik. Chopra further expressed his anger over the confusion created within the team due to workload management.
The 45-year-old said that Shubman Gill does not require any rest as he was not a part of the T20I squad and is not at all tired.
“Gill has been performing exceptionally well. He is not at all tired and does not require workload management. But you have not selected him for the Bangladesh tour, and what reason will you give to him?”
Notably, Gill has scored 625 runs in 2022 and averages 78.12.
Chopra further pointed out certain confusions the selectors have created within the team.
“Deepak Hooda is also not a part of the Bangladesh squad. He played just one match in the World Cup and does not need any rest. Ishan Kishan is a part of the Bangladesh series but is not a part of this New Zealand tour. Whereas Sanju Samson again takes an axe.”
Chopra questioned the lack of spinners in the team and came to Kuldeep Yadav’s defence, who is not a part of the Bangladesh tour.
“You might probably drop Kuldeep out of the team without playing a game. Why? I do not know.” Yuzvendra Chahal also misses out on the Bangladesh tour.
