England all-rounder Ben Stokes is all set to play for Rajasthan Royals in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League, starting from April 9. The 29-year-old was last seen in action during the three-match ODI series against India.
England have just finished a gruelling tour of India, comprising four Tests, five T20Is, and three ODIs.
Stokes, who was featured in all three formats against the Virat Kohli-led side, has joined the RR camp along with his English teammates, Jos Buttler and Liam Livingstone.
Ahead of the upcoming season, Stokes admitted it was great news for everyone that IPL is scheduled to take place in India this year. Adding that the fans are a massive part of the cash-rich league, Stokes said that he is looking forward to the much-anticipated tournament.
“It’s great for the competition that it’s come back to its roots (India) after taking place in Dubai last year, which was an achievement in itself. Fingers crossed that fans will be allowed back in at some point during this IPL because they are a huge part of this game,” the Englishman was quoted as saying by skysports.com.
However, Stokes’ statement didn’t go down well with a fan who accused of “chasing the pound” rather than playing for his country. But Ben Stokes gave a befitting reply to the user.
“When have I ever been too tired to bowl in an England shirt pal?,” he tweeted.
