Hardik Pandya led India to their 12th consecutive T20I series win at home, as the Men in Blue defeated Sri Lanka by 91 runs to clinch the series 2-1.
India had an impressive last year in terms of bilateral series but faced humiliation in mega-tournaments. Rohit Sharma faced criticism for his regular breaks and failed efforts to end India’s ICC trophy drought.
Hardik Pandya has been India’s stand-in skipper since leading Gujarat to IPL glory in the IPL 2022. The 29-year-old has not lost any T20I series so far, and several have touted him to become the permanent captain for India in the shortest format.
The latest to jump on the bandwagon is former India star Ajay Jadeja, who also came in Pandya’s support to lead the Indian side permanently.
Jadeja feels that similar to how MS Dhoni gave the captaincy to Virat Kohli, the same should be done by Rohit Sharma.
“The records suggest that Rohit Sharma is the best captain. But I feel that how MS Dhoni passed the leadership to Virat Kohli, Rohit should do the same with Hardik Pandya. It was not selectors or board members, who asked Dhoni to do that, but that is how it should be.”
