WTC final
The first session of much-awaited World Test Championship (WTC) final has washed out as the rain played a spoilsport.

The first session of the much-awaited World Test Championship (WTC) final has washed out as the rain played a spoilsport at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton on Friday.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently shared a weather update on its official Twitter handle and announced that there will be no play in the first session on Day 1.

“Unfortunately there will be no play in the first session on Day 1 of the ICC World Test Championship final. #WTC21,” BCCI tweeted.

The Indian cricket board had earlier shared pictures from Ageas Bowl and wrote, “Good morning from Southampton. We are just over an hour away from the scheduled start of play but It continues to drizzle here. The match officials are on the field now.”

Soon after the BCCI gave an update, it sparked a meme fest on social media platforms.

Here’s see how Twitter reacted after the first session of WTC final washed out:

Notably, it’s been raining in Southampton since Thursday evening and the conditions were no different on Friday.

With Southampton’s weather forecast for the WTC final not very encouraging, there is a possibility the match could either end up in a draw or, in worst case scenario, wash out altogether.

If there will be a situation of draw or no result in the all-important game then both India and New Zealand will be declared as joint winners as per ICC’s playing conditions for the WTC final.
