India all-rounder Hardik Pandya on Friday took to his official Twitter handle and wished his national teammates good luck for the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.
Hardik, who is currently serving the mandatory quarantine period in Mumbai before heading off to Sri Lanka for the limited-overs series, wants the Virat Kohli-led side to bring the WTC title home.
Sharing the picture of the Indian team, the 27-year-old wrote, “One final Test awaits boys! Bring the cup home @BCCI.”
For teams and their captains, this high-octane clash is a golden opportunity to carve their names in the record books as the winners of the inaugural WTC.
While New Zealand have a slight advantage as they have already clinched the two-match Test series in England last week, India will be heading into the contest without much practice.
Moreover, Virat Kohli is yet to win an ICC event as a skipper and many cricket experts see the WTC final as an opportunity to change his fortunes.
However, the 32-year-old batsman has said that his team is not looking at the one-off Test against Kane Williamson-led side as their “final frontier”.
“For us, this is not the final frontier, it’s just another feather to add to this big hat that we have created as a Test team. This is not just good cricket over the last 7-8 months. This is hard work and toil for the last 4-5 years,” Virat said in a video posted on ICC’s official Twitter handle.
