New Zealand welcomed in traditional Gujarati style in Ahmedabad

ICC World Cup 2023 begins in India tomorrow, with New Zealand taking on England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat in the campaign opener, which is a repeat of the 2019 World Cup final.

Ahead of the curtain raiser, New Zealand arrived in Ahmedabad for their opening World Cup 2023 match against England. The Kiwis were welcomed in a traditional Gujarati style with dhol beats and tilak at the entrance. Upon entering the hotel, the players were greeted by dancers performing Garba, a traditional Gujarati folk dance. The Blackcaps shared a video of their arrival on Instagram.

“Feeling welcome ahead of Game 1 🏟️ The team’s first match is on Thursday against @englandcricket.”

Mitchell Santner vibed to the beats, while skipper Kane Williamson, who recently recovered from a knee injury, received a roaring welcome at the hotel.

New Zealand have missed out on two World Cup trophies as they ended up as the runners-up in the 2015 and 2019 World Cup. Meanwhile, England, who are the defending champions, have also arrived in Ahmedabad. Several English players also took to social media platforms to praise the warm welcome at the hotel in Ahmedabad.
