Virat Kohli to end eight-year-old deal with PUMA

India’s star player and Asia’s most followed athlete, Virat Kohli, is all set to end his eight-year-long collaboration with Puma. Virat, who joined the renowned sportswear brand in 2017, has decided to part ways with the company and is all set to join a one-year-old sportswear brand.

CNBC-TV 18 broke the information to the world as they posted the same on their Twitter handle. The CNBC reporter stated that Virat will join Agilitas Sports, which was founded in 2023 by former Puma MD Abhishek Ganguly. 

The Puma India deal that was signed in 2017 worth 110 crores was for about 8 years and now Virat will be terminating that deal as he will join Agilitas Sports. You may have not heard about this company because it is just a one-year-long brand founded in 2023. It was founded by former Puma MD Abhishek Ganguly.”

“One partnership ends to support another partnership, which was between Virat and Abhishek Ganguly. Further, Virat will also hold some equity in Agilitas.”

“#ViratKohli is all set to end his 8-year association with @PUMA Sources tell @blitzkreigm that @imVkohli will join as the brand ambassador of a homegrown company in which he owns a stake,” CNBC tweeted. 

Puma is the leading sportswear brand in India beating the likes of Nike and Adidas. They have roped in stars like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Yuvraj Singh, Sunil Chhetri, and recently Harrdy Sandhu. Also, in December 2022, they signed Bollywood actress and Virat’s wife Anushka Sharma. 

Virat’s absence from the India-England series

The five-match Test series between India and England is tied 1-1. Virat pulled his name from the first two games due to a personal emergency. It was reported that his mother was ill, but Kohli’s brother quashed that rumour and stated that their mother was fit and fine.

Meanwhile, AB de Villiers stated that Virat and Anushka are expecting their second child, which is why Virat is on leave. BCCI will announce the squad for the remaining three matches in a day or two, which will end the suspense around Virat’s participation in the upcoming three matches.
