The Men in Blue suffered a 16-run loss to Sri Lanka, who were the better team on the field in all departments. The Dasun-Shanaka men put 206 on the board, and the skipper led from the front as he scored the fastest fifty by a Sri Lankan in T20Is in just 20 balls.
The Men in Blue managed to put 190 on the board but were in a state of bother as the top order collapsed like dominos at the start. The young Indian brigade, without the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul, were 57/5 before Suryakumar Yadav and Axar Patel stitched a 91-run stand.
After the loss, coach Rahul Dravid interacted with media personnel, where responding to a question, he hinted at the end of the T20I careers for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
“From the loss against England to this match, only 3-4 players are the same, the rest all are young and fresh. We are looking at the next cycle of T20. The good thing is that all the focus is on World Cup and World Test Championship, so it allows us to try out young players for the T20I format.”
Dravid concluded by reflecting on the school-boy errors by the Indian bowlers in the match and said that it is a young team and they are bound to have a few off-days.
