Indian Premier League legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni made history, becoming the first player in the competition’s history to clock 150 wins as a player. Dhoni, who has been a regular force since the league’s inception in 2008, has dominated the competition in terms of several records. He has now etched his name in IPL’s history books once again. Dhoni attained the mega milestone when Chennai Super Kings beat Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 46 of the IPL 2024 season at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

CSK scored 212/3 in 20 overs. Ruturaj Gaikwad led the way for CSK with a superb 98-run knock. He was involved in a massive century-plus stand alongside Daryl Mitchell, who smashed his maiden IPL fifty. Shivam Dube came in and played a powerful cameo, with MS Dhoni scoring an unbeaten five from two balls.

In response, Tushar Deshpande claimed three wickets in the power play for CSK and finished with a four-wicket haul to lead the way for the hosts. Mustafizur Rahman raced to 14 wickets in the season with a two-wicket haul. SRH were poor with the bat and fell for a paltry score of 134 and lost by 78 runs in the process. With this, Dhoni went on to register a massive record.

MS Dhoni (150 wins)

MS Dhoni owns 150 wins from 259 matches in the IPL. He is the leading player in terms of appearances. As per ESPNcricinfo, 133 of Dhoni’s wins have come as captain. He led 226 times in the IPL – the most by any player. 

Dhoni has represented CSK and RPS in the IPL. For Chennai, Dhoni has accumulated a total of 4604 runs at 40.74. Overall, Dhoni has managed 5178 runs at 39.52. He is closing in on 250 IPL sixes (247). 

Dhoni is a five-time IPL winner with CSK. He left captaincy ahead of the IPL 2024 season. Dhoni has done well in the limited innings he has played this season, striking above 250 in the process.

Ravindra Jadeja (133 wins)

As CSK beat SRH, Ravindra Jadeja became the joint second-highest in terms of IPL wins as players. He has 133 wins as a player in the IPL. Jadeja has been a mainstay in CSK’s set-up. He also represented Gujarat Lions for two seasons apart from playing for Rajasthan Royals early in his IPL career. 

In 235 IPL matches (178 innings), the southpaw has clocked 2849 runs at 27.39. He owns 100-plus sixes. Jadeja has accounted for 157 scalps with the ball from 206 innings at 30.12. He owns over `100 catches as an outfielder in the tournament.

For CSK, he has 1787 runs with the bat and 130 scalps with the ball. He has made 167 IPL appearances for CSK.

Rohit Sharma (133 wins)

Rohit Sharma, who led MI to five IPL titles, is a six-time winner of the trophy. He earlier won the title with the Deccan Chargers. Rohit has 133 wins as a player in IPL history. Notably, 87 of his wins have come as a captain of MI from 158 matches. He was let go as captain ahead of IPL 2024 as MI named Hardik Pandya as the new skipper. 

Rohit has made a total of 252 IPL appearances, currently the joint second-best alongside Dinesh Karthik. He owns a total of 6522 IPL runs at 29.91. 207 of his IPL appearances have come for MI. 5352 of his IPL runs have come for MI at 29.73. Rohit has the second-most sixes in IPL history. In IPL 2024, the senior cricketer owns 311 runs from nine matches, striking above 160.

Dinesh Karthik (125 wins)

Dinesh Karthik is next on the list. Playing since the IPL 2008 season, Karthik has played for a host of teams in the IPL. Currently, he is playing for RCB. Karthik, who has made 252 IPL appearances to date, owns 125 wins as a player. 21 of his wins came as captain for KKR and DC, respectively. He led in 43 matches.

Karthik has the second-highest number of dismissals as a wicketkeeper behind MSD. In 252 matches (229 innings), Karthik owns 4778 runs at 26.54. For current side RCB, the veteran has made a total of 55 appearances, scoring 873 runs at 25.67. His strike rate is 163.17.

Suresh Raina (122 matches)

The next in this unique list is former CSK ace Suresh Raina, who clocked 122 wins. Raina also played for GL across two seasons when CSK were suspended. 14 of his wins came as captain. 

Raina finished his IPL career with 205 matches. He scored a whopping 5528 runs at 32.51. He holds the record for the second-highest number of catches as an outfielder (109). For CSK, Raina played a total of 176 matches and is their top scorer with 4687 runs at 32.32. He owned 33 fifties and a ton for the team.

Ambati Rayudu (121 wins)

Former CSK and MI star Ambati Rayudu went on to win six IPL honours. He ended up with 121 wins as a player. Rayudu shifted from MI to CSK and left an impression for both teams. Overall, Rayudu made 204 IPL appearances, scoring 4348 runs at 28.23.

He played 114 matches for MI, scoring 2416 runs at 27.14. He also ended up with 1932 runs for CSK from 90 matches. 

Virat Kohli (116 wins)

Virat Kohli, who is the IPL’s top scorer, has represented RCB all his life. He has earned 116 wins with the Challengers. Notably, Kohli captained the team in 143 matches, winning 66.

Kohli has amassed 7763 runs from 247 IPL matches at 38.43. He has slammed the highest number of centuries (8) and owns 54 fifties as well. He has also smashed 254 sixes. Kohli is the leading scorer in IPL 2024 with 500 runs. He now owns 500-plus runs across seven different seasons, matching David Warner’s record.
