Srikkanth and Rishabh Pant
Srikkanth wants Rishabh Pant to take a break

The Men in Blue missed the opportunity to seal their 6th consecutive ODI series win after the 2nd ODI got abandoned due to a heavy downpour.

The Shikhar Dhawan-led side lost in the first game, despite putting 306 on the board. While the bowling department continues to let the team down, Rishabh Pant has been hogging headlines due to his poor run with the bat.

The 25-year-old scored just 15 off 23 balls and wasted another crucial opportunity. The southpaw has been at the helm of criticism for repeatedly failing to repay the faith shown in him by the management. There are loud demands for his ouster from the team and to let players like Sanju Samson get more opportunities.

The latest to join the bandwagon and lash out at Pant for his careless cricket is former India opener Krishnamachari Srikkanth.

“I am very disappointed by Pant for not utilising his chances. What is this Pant? You are messing up with the faith shown in you. We have a World Cup next year. For him to be in the team, he needs to re-invent himself. He should not just throw away his wicket.”

Srikkanth further advised Pant to follow Kohli’s path and asked him to take a break to regroup and focus.

“I will urge Pant to have a break. Instead of removing him from the team, it is better to give him a break.”

Notably, Kohli also took his time off from cricket in August, when he struggled for form. Since his return, he has been in scintillating form.
