Virat Kohli's childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma has stated that Rahul Dravid has failed to produce good results

After a disappointing end to the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup, a new and young Indian squad travelled to New Zealand for a multi-format white ball tour. Few senior and marquee players were given rest to prepare for the forthcoming Bangladesh tour.

Apart from the senior players, head coach Rahul Dravid and his supporting staff also took time off and did not travel with the squad to New Zealand. VVS Laxman stepped in as the interim head coach.

It was not the first time that Dravid took a break, and Laxman took his place for a particular series. In the series against Ireland, VVS travelled with the second-stringed Indian side and was also present with the team when Dravid caught the COVID-19 virus.

A few experts were baffled by the decision and expressed their displeasure over Dravid’s regular breaks. The latest to lash out is former India star Ajay Jadeja.

During an appearance on the pre-match show in the 2nd ODI, Jadeja took a dig at Dravid for taking a break from coaching and pointed out that a two-and-a-half-month break is enough for a coach.

“Coaching a national team is a limited time’s role. It is a job you do for a couple of years and gets a two-and-a-half-month break during the IPL, then why seek extra rest?”

“Dravid and batting coach Vikram Rathour are very dear friends of mine, but with no disrespect, they should not be getting any break. For two years, you need to give in everything like the players.”

Presenter Gaurav Kapoor came in Dravid’s defence and pointed out that the Bangladesh series will start in just four days after the 3rd ODI against New Zealand, and it would have been difficult to be at two places in such a short time.

Jadeja counter-argued and said that a few players would also travel to Bangladesh from here.
