Gujarat Titans is a franchise cricket team based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India and plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Gujarat Titans were one of two new teams introduced ahead of the 2022 season. CVC Capital Partners own the franchise.
Gujarat Titans played their first Indian Premier League in 2022. Under the leadership of captain Hardik Pandya and coach Ashish Nehra, Gujrat Titans won the IPL title in their debut season. They finished the 2022 season at the top of the points table, winning 10 out of 14 group-stage matches. In 2023, GT reached to the finals but lost to Chennai Super Kings.
While coach Ashish Nehra will be guiding the team, GT announced dynamic batter Shubman Gill as their captain for the 2024 IPL season as Hardik Pandya was traded to Mumbai Indians.
Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi stadium is the home ground for the Gujrat Titans. It is the largest stadium in the world, with a seating capacity of 132,000 spectators. The Gujarat Cricket Association owns it. Earlier named Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium, it was demolished in 2015, and the reconstruction was completed in 2020.
FORMAT
The teams are split into two groups, A and B, with five teams in each group. Each team will play one game against all five teams in the other group, both home and away, and two games against the four teams in their own group. In total, each team will play seven home games and seven away games. After the group stage, the top four teams based on total points will advance to the playoffs. In the playoffs, the top two teams will face each other in “Qualifier 1”, while the other two teams will play in the “Eliminator” match. The winner of Qualifier 1 will advance directly to the final. The losing team from Qualifier 1 will get a second chance by playing the winner of the Eliminator in “Qualifier 2”. The winner of Qualifier 2 will also advance to the final. The team that wins the final match will be crowned the champions of the Indian Premier League.
