Overview:

Jaiswal's impressive tally of seven centuries at the age of 23 places him joint-fourth in Test cricket history, with only Don Bradman, Sachin Tendulkar, and Gary Sobers ahead of him.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was the top performer for India in the first innings of the Guwahati Test, as the batting lineup collapsed dramatically. This has left the team facing the possibility of a second consecutive whitewash on home soil since Gautam Gambhir took over as head coach.

With South Africa posting a massive 489 in their first innings, India needed a strong batting performance to stay in the match after losing the series opener in Kolkata. Jaiswal laid a solid foundation, scoring 58 runs off 97 balls, and stitched a 65-run stand with KL Rahul, who amassed 22 runs.

Before Simon Harmer dismissed him, the 23-year-old Jaiswal made history by scoring his 20th career score of 50 or more, which includes seven centuries. Now in his 28th Test match, the star batter has accumulated 2498 runs, at an impressive average of 49.9.

Jaiswal has become the second Indian player, after Sachin Tendulkar, to smash 20 fifties in Test cricket before turning 24, and the first to do so in the 21st century. In the 148-year history of Test cricket, only six players have achieved this feat, with Alastair Cook and Kane Williamson being the only ones to reach this milestone since the change of the millennium.

Jaiswal’s impressive tally of seven centuries at the age of 23 places him joint-fourth in Test cricket history, with only Don Bradman, Sachin Tendulkar, and Gary Sobers ahead of him. The Indian opener has converted five of those centuries into scores exceeding 150, a feat only Bradman has done better at this age. The second innings of this match will be the final time Jaiswal bats in Test cricket before turning 24 next month.
