The final of the inaugural ICC World Test Championship (WTC) between India and New Zealand, which took place at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton from June 18 to 23, caught the attention of many cricket fanatics all around the globe.
According to the latest data released by the Broadcast Audience Research Council India (BARC), the WTC final was the most-viewed Test match since 2018. The high-octane clash was watched by 99 million people on television.
Moreover, the average minute audience (AMA) of the match was 7.4 million.

“After a long wait of 144 years, a world champion for Tests will be crowned and this makes the WTC Final a marquee event. We are expecting the WTC Finals to be the most-watched game, keeping in mind the weekend and also a prime time slot – the attention and pent-up demand are something advertisers are capitalizing on,” Executive Vice President of Star Sports, Anil Jayaraj was quoted as saying by Moneycontrol.
Speaking of the match, the Kiwis defeated Virat Kohli’s men by eight wickets to clinch their first major ICC title since 2000.
After the Indian team was bowled out for just 170 runs in the second innings, New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson (52*) and Ross Taylor (47*) performed exceedingly well to take their side over the line.
