Shreyas Iyer in Indian side

The Men in Blue registered an emphatic win over New Zealand at Bay Oval on Sunday. India beat the Kiwis by 65 runs in the 2nd T20I to go up 1-0 in the 3-match series.

The Indian side rode on Suryakumar Yadav’s shoulder as the 32-year-old scored his career’s 2nd T20I century. SKY amassed an unbeaten 111 off 51 balls and broke plethora of records.

Chasing 192, the Black Caps lost wickets at regular intervals and were cleaned up for 126 runs. Deepak Hooda topped the bowling chart as he picked up a four-wicket haul.

Interestingly skipper Hardik Pandya did not bowl a single over in the match and utilised other all-rounders more.

Meanwhile, former New Zealand player Simon Doull lashed out at Shreyas Iyer despite India registering a comfortable win.

Doull highlighted the lack of bowling depth in the Indian side and expects more contributions from genuine batters.

“India have had this problem for a long time now. When Hardik was injured, the team was clueless. Shardul Thakur and a few others have done well in various series. But I am talking about genuine batters.”

“Shreyas Iyer, for example, why is he not bowling off-spin? If he practices bowling more, it will add to the team’s bowling depth.”

After the match, Hardik highlighted that he wants more batters to step up to bowl.

“I have bowled a lot. I want more bowling options. I want the batters to step in.”
