New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson has been ruled out of the third and final T20I against India. Tim Southee will lead the Kiwis in his absence, while Mark Chapman has been called up.
Williamson scored a 52-ball 65 in New Zealand’s 65-run loss and will miss Tuesday’s tie to attend a pre-arranged medical appointment.
“Kane was trying to get it booked for a while but unfortunately it hasn’t been able to fit into our schedule. The health of our players is most important and we look forward to seeing him in Auckland,” said Gary Speed.
Stead also clarified that the medical appointment has nothing to do with Kane’s elbow issues.
He spoke about Chapman, who has been recalled after recently featuring in the T20 World Cup in Australia.
“He’s a quality playe and offers good versatility in the order,” Stead said of Chapman. Williamson will return for the three-match ODI series, which begins on Friday in Auckland.
