Arjun Tendulkar, the son of legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, stole the show as he received the Mumbai Indians Player of the Match (POTM) award from his father in a thrilling match against SRH on Tuesday, April 18. Arjun’s impressive spell helped MI secure their third consecutive victory in the IPL.
Arjun, who made his IPL debut this season, picked up his maiden wicket and conceded only 5 runs, defending 20 runs in the final over. He finished with figures of 1/18 in 2.5 overs and was praised by the team’s head coach, Mark Boucher, for his impressive opening spell and composure under pressure.
Sachin Tendulkar playfully joked that his son’s success meant there was now a wicket-taker in their family. Arjun also won the dressing room POTM award, adding to the family’s joy.
Mumbai posted a massive total of 192-5 in their 20 overs. Well-paced innings of 64 off 40 balls by Cameron Green and support from Tilak Verma set it up for MI. Openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan provided a solid start with a sublime partnership of 41 runs from 28 balls.
In response, SRH started poorly, losing the early wicket of Harry Brook in the powerplay. Despite a late flurry by Heinrich Klaasen, they were bowled out for 178 in 19.5 overs, handing Mumbai Indians a 14-run victory.
MI has climbed to sixth place in the points table with three wins from five matches. It was a proud moment for the Tendulkar family, and Arjun’s impressive performance has given Mumbai Indians‘ fans something to cheer about.
