Veteran India wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has revealed that he was highly criticized by fans on social media during his debut commentary stint at the World Test Championship (WTC) final at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.
Karthik, who was the only Indian commentator after Sunil Gavaskar in the rain-marred final between India and New Zealand, has said his early-morning ‘Weatherman’ updates on Twitter had attracted the wrath of many users.
The 36-year-old also disclosed that thousands of over-enthusiastic fans even abused him for waking up late or providing updates of the rain from Southampton.
Calling his ‘Weatherman’ report a double-edged sword, Karthik said, “On Day 1, I received a lot of praise, the second day was very happy, the third day they started abusing me. I wanted to sleep yaar, I can’t wake up every day at 6’o clock to give a weather report.
“They started abusing me saying, ‘Wake up! What the hell are you doing?’ in far more choice words that I can’t use on the podcast, just for not waking up, which was hard but you have to live up to their expectations. I got abused for saying it was raining!,” Karthik said on the ‘22 Yarns with Gaurav Kapur’ podcast.
Recently, Dinesh Karthik once again came into the limelight for his sexist remark on air during the three-match ODI series between England and Sri Lanka.
