Veteran India wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik, who made an impressive commentary debut during the final of the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) in Southampton, has been hogging the limelight once again but for all the wrong reasons.
The 36-year-old was highly criticised by the fans for his recent controversial remark which he made during the second ODI between Sri Lanka and England.
Karthik went on to compare the bat of a rival player to a neighbour’s wife.
“Batsmen and not liking bats, they go hand in hand. Most of the batters don’t seem to like their bats. They either like another person’s bat. Bats are like a neighbour’s wife,” the Indian player had said.
However, the fans were not pleased with Karthik’s comment and they slammed him on social media platforms for his controversial statement.
Being at the receiving end of criticism, Karthik apologised for his comments.
“I want to apologise for what happened in the last game. I just got it all wrong. I apologise to everybody. It’s definitely not the right thing to say. I got a lot of stick from my wife and my mum for saying that,” said the Chennai-born cricketer.
Following the incident, the former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg took a dig at Dinesh Karthik for his controversial usage of words.
Taking to his official Twitter handle, Hogg wrote, “@DineshKarthik your neighbourhood is on high alert now.”
