Overview:

Australia started the Test atop the WTC rankings with 100 PCT, and their latest victory only solidified that status. South Africa remain the closest challenger, but still trails the high-flying leaders.

Australia are undefeated in their ICC World Test Champions campaign spot and clinched their fifth consecutive win. They defeated England by 8 wickets in the second Ashes Test in four days at the Gabba.

Australia tightened their grip on both the Ashes and the WTC standings, securing another win. The emphatic result pushed the hosts to a 2-0 lead in the 2025-26 series and extended their flawless start to the 2025-27 campaign.

With a big first-innings lead, Steve Smith’s men always held the upper hand. England slumped to 134 for 6 in their second outing before Ben Stokes and Will Jacks added important runs in the first session on Day 4. However, Australia’s attack regrouped and finished the job with authority.

Michael Neser tore through the lower order to finish with five wickets, leaving England with a lead of 64 runs. The Australian batters then cruised to the finish line.

England, who kicked off this WTC cycle with a draw series against India at home, have now slipped to seventh place after back-to-back setbacks in Australia. The defeats have dented their position in the table, and they have a PCT of 30.95 heading into the third Test.

The loss in Brisbane has only put pressure on England, who are in danger of not making it to the WTC final. Bangladesh and the West Indies are the only teams, who are behind England in the standings. There is a possibility of the English team losing all the remaining games in the ongoing series.
