Travis Head has said that he may not take part in the ongoing Big Bash League campaign as he looks to manage fatigue. The Australian opener explained that staying in top shape for the upcoming T20 World Cup, set to begin on February 7, is his top priority. His comments follow a long and demanding season, during which he played a key role in helping Australia retain the Ashes.
Head labelled the Ashes campaign as mentally demanding and said he needs rest before another intense cricket season gets underway. The veteran batter has already navigated a crowded home schedule, featuring in white-ball games against India before appearing in a Sheffield Shield match for Ashes preparation. He has been in attacking form during the series, producing two decisive centuries, highlighted by a blistering 123 in the opening Test at Perth.
In comments to News Corp, Head played down the chances of featuring for the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League, pointing to the mental strain of the Ashes series and the demands of the approaching T20 World Cup.
“Being part of an Ashes series is always mentally exhausting, so I feel it’s crucial to approach the World Cup feeling refreshed.”
Since the 2022–23 BBL season, Head has stayed away from the Adelaide Strikers, focusing on international duties and the IPL. At Sunrisers Hyderabad, he has been a pivotal opener with Abhishek Sharma, amassing 567 runs at a strike rate of 191.59 in 2024 and following it up with another impressive season in 2025.
